adamb.: In my work I present an interpretation of masculinity and male sexuality. Distorted figures represent a fragmented perception of myself as I explore issues of identity. The images appear as memories realized to a point of over-exposure. The process and medium have a strong connection to the alluring physicality of the subject. I use layers to build the images, then obscure them, to explore the strength of reduced form that speaks metaphorically to the inchoate nature of the figures. They pine for revival. There is blood beneath the surface. They are sentimental. They are perverted. They inherit my awkward desires. The viewer is encouraged to read beyond the formal aspects of composition and representation to acknowledge the visceral quality of paint and engage with the treatment of the surface. I wish to emphasize the subjective connection between painting and the forms represented. I am portraying intimate moments.
